  • Getting Started with the PFC

Getting started with our club is easy. Just show up! You won't need any special equipment. Bring some shoes appropriate for a gym and you'll be ready. Your first two weeks are free while you try out the sport and see if it's right for you. We will loan you the necessary equipment so you can begin to learn fencing on your very first night. After two weeks, when you've found out how fun fencing is, you can join the club by paying your dues (see Membership Fees). We will then rent you equipment as it is available. At some point, you will want to purchase the basic practice gear (mask, glove, jacket, weapon) so you don't have to scrounge around looking for loaners. The coach will help you select the equipment best suited for you. Starter sets run about $170. You can buy it all at once or buy a piece at a time as you are able to afford it. Don't worry about competition gear (electric weapon, body cord and electric jacket) because the club will loan you that equipment.

Fencing can be whatever you want. It can be an intense mental and physical competition between you and your opponent or it can be a way to have fun and get some great exercise. And of course, anywhere in between. However you choose to approach fencing, we have current members who are of the same mind and probably the same age (6 yrs old to adults!). So come on by the salle (fencing gym) and take a look at our sport. We'd love to have you join the Pocatello Fencing Club.
